The Jerry Russell Civil War Preservation Memorial Award – General Ulysses S. Grant

General Grant, "I take a great deal of pride (with an equal dose of humility) to bring to your attention this award given me by the West Coast CWRT Conference in Fresno, CA, on November 4th, last. I was stunned to receive it. I had no notion I was being considered for this honor. It is doubly sweet because General Parker Hills (USA, Ret.) was also awarded the same honor and plaque. It is only the second time in the history of the Conference that dual recipients were honored." Needless to say, I am pleased. ......... Curt Fields aka [...]

History Mystery Tour Press Release

What was your favorite subject in school? If it was history, you probably had a great teacher, one who didn't focus on memorizing dates but on bringing past people and events to life. During this time, Nashville was a big political center and many important people visited Carnton with the most famous being Andrew Jackson. John McGavock inherited the plantation after his father died. He expanded the plantation and in 1848 he married Carrie Winder. Together they had five children [...]

Our family trip to the Abraham Lincoln Museum

Checking to see who was taller Abe at age 9 or Josiah age 10 Our family trip to the Abraham Lincoln Museum was very fun and exciting. It brought history to life. We got to see his family home in Springfield and how he lived before he became president. Abe Lincoln was poor when he was young and worked very hard to make a living and help support his family. As a boy he would be rented out by his father to work for other people and all his money he gave to his father. It was interesting to see [...]

History of Abraham Lincoln

Written by Tyler D.  Age 14 Posted on April, 2012 Abraham Lincoln was an honest, courageous, and truthful man who served like a king. But even before becoming a man, he carried these values with him as a child. He made Thanksgiving an official holiday, needing a day for the North to be thankful for the victories they achieved. Ten nights before his assassination, Lincoln had a dream that was later proclaimed prophetical by his wife after his death on April 25, 1856. He was greatly grieved by the nation after his death as the people called him “Father Abraham†[...]
